SPORT FISHING IN CARRILLO

Traveling for Carrillo fishing, although seemingly complicated, simply isn’t. Or, there are also daily 45-minute commuter flights from San José to the Puerto Carrillo area on domestic carriers Nature Air and Sansa.
If anglers who have decided to fish Carrillo prefer to fly into Liberia’s international airport, it is a two-hour drive from there through Santa Cruz and Nicoya.
Carrillo is area’s best-known fishing destination
Anglers staying in Puerto Carillo might also pick up their Costa Rica fishing charter at Samara or Guanamar, depending on where the particular boat they have booked is moored. Costa Rican sport fishing captains who live in and fish the area usually don’t make much of a distinction between Carillo and Samara or Guanamar, 20-25 minutes away by cab, although as a Costa Rica fishing destination, Carillo is the best known of the three.
Boats travel from Flamingo to fish Carrillo
Puerto Carrillo – along with Guanamar and Samara – is a winter haven for many Costa Rican sport fishing charter captains, who bring their boats down from Flamingo and the Papagayo Bay area between January and April and set up temporary quarters to escape the Papagayo winds that sweep over the northern part of Guanacaste.
Puerto Carrillo offer excellent offshore and inshore Costa Rica fishing action all year around. The bay and coastline where Carillo is situated are always rich in baitfish, so every species of gamefish that anglers chose to target can be caught 365 days a year
