Los Sueños anglers find the big one that DIDN’T get away

It’s always nice when you can boast ‘This is the big one that DIDN’T get away! Anglers on the 42ft Dragin Fly with Captain James Smith at Los Sueños Marina on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific coast were able to say just this after boating this huge yellowfin tuna. The big fella was 75 inches long, and 46 inches wide.

They weren’t exactly sure what it weighed. But the weight charts indicate that a yellowfin tuna of this size would run around 300 pounds, give or take a few.

Yellowfin tuna are one huge muscle. Bringing a beast like this specimen to the boat demands a few hour’s fight. But the agony and pain are well worth it, as every angler who has caught a tuna this size will be quick to tell you.

Lots of Costa Rica’s top sportfishing charter captains at Los Sueños were out fishing over these past few days. And the bite there was not shabby at all. For instance, the people who fished offshore with Captain Randall Garcia had a  pretty good day, going 4-9 on sailfish.

There were marlin around as well. Anglers on another Los Sueños boat, the 34ft Epic with Captain Michael Alligood, released this blue marlin and five sailfish.
