The sailfish are biting like they did ten and twenty years ago
It’s been an incredible few days for sailfish off the Central Pacific coast, especially by charter sportfishing boats out of Los Sueños Marina. We’ve seen some numbers that haven’t been registered in quite a while
Over the weekend, anglers on the 36ft Good Day Too with Captain Esteban Marcos released 19 of them. Anglers with Captain Gregg Giampapa on the 38ft Tres Amigos released 25. And finally, just yesterday, anglers with Captain Alex Holden on the 36ft Constellation went 23-30 on sailfish.

Smaller boats were quite successful also. Anglers on the 31ft Gamefisher II with Captain Junior Bustos at Pez Vela Marina in Quepos raised 17 sailfish, got 12 bites, and released five.
All in all, February was a pretty good month. Another Pez Vela boat, the 46ft CaribSea with Captain Glenn Morales, managed to rack up a black marlin, six blue marlin; 113 sailfish; 22 dorado; 51 yellowfin tuna; and a few grouper over 23 days’ fishing.
Back at Los Sueños again, the February tally for the 36ft Good Day Too was 149 sailfish; nine marlin; 32 dorado; and 17 yellowfin tuna.
Here’s what February at Los Sueños looked like overall. Between February 1 and 28, the boats that reported back to the marina over the month totalled 5,225 sailfish and 326 marlin releases, plus 2,442 other species such as roosterfish and snapper caught or released! These numbers include releases by boats competing in Leg II of the Los Sueños Signature Billfish Tournament.
