The first Playa Hermosa is located in the province of Puntarenas just south of the very popular beach resort of Jacó on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific coast. About 90 minutes by car from San José, Playa Hermosa is not known as a Costa Rica fishing destination. This Playa Hermosa is a six-mile stretch of black sand beach internationally acclaimed as one of the world’s premier surfing beaches.

Playa Hermosa Puntarenas a lure for surfers world-wide

Playa Hermosa is one of the top surfing havens for professional and expert surfers. It offers surfers some of the best and most consistent surf breaks in the world, with waves reaching as high as 13 feet. Needless to say, Playa Hermosa is not a swimming beach.

Playa Hermosa hosts the International Quicksilver Championships every August; it has also hosted the International Surfing Association (ISA) World Surfing Games.

Fish out of Los Sueños or Playa Herradura

Tourists staying at hotels in Playa Hermosa Puntarenas who want to enjoy a Costa Rica fishing adventure need only to drive 20 or so minutes north past Jacó to Los Sueños Marina or Playa Herradura. There they will find some of Costa Rica’s top saltwater charter boats and captains for offshore and inshore Costa Rican sportfishing adventures.

Playa Hermosa fishing Guanacaste

Fishing in Playa Hermosa Guancaste, one of the largest beachs that offers sportfishing trips in Costa Rica.Playa Hermosa #2 is located in the province of Guanacaste, on Costa Rica’s North Pacific coast, at the southern extremity of the Gulf of Papagayo, between Playas del Coco and Playa Panamá. It is a 25-minute drive to Playa Hermosa from Liberia international airport.

Playa Hermosa Guanacaste is seldom as crowded as its neighbors, and tourists upscale to moderate but comfortable hotels, fine dining and all kinds of water sports.

Offshore fishing to Bat Islands and Tamarindo

Fish Playa Hermosa and surf the beaches of both Guanacaste and PuntarenasPlaya Hermosa fishing is mainly confined to local Costa Rican sportfishing guides with smaller center consoles, sportfishermen and pangas. Anyone booking a Playa Hermosa sportfishing boat and guide, and who wants to catch offshore species such as Sailfish, Marlin and Yellowfin Tuna, will usually run 70 minutes to either the Bat Islands or even south to Tamarindo.

For Playa Hermosa fishing inshore, local guides will often run 30 minutes to the Catalina Islands for big Roosterfish; Red and Cubera Snapper; Common and Big-Eye Grouper; Jack and Almaco Jack; Skipjack, Rainbow Runner and other species.

If you are a larger group and want to fish Costa Rica on a larger boat, you might want to charter a Flamingo fishing captain or a Tamarindo fishing captain, and travel there.

The Playa Hermosa fishing seasons follow the general North Pacific pattern. So, again if you are in Playa Hermosa Guanacaste between January and March, you should consider fishing Tamarindo.
