Fish Costa Rica

Tell us what you want to catch. We’ll handle the rest.

Costa Rica has great fishing all year, but the right charter depends on your dates, target fish, group size and where you’re staying. Instead of comparing dozens of boats on your own, start with the experience you want, and we’ll narrow down the destination, fishing style and boat.

Costa Rica fishing FAQ

Planning your fishing trip

What is the best time of year to fish in Costa Rica?

You can fish Costa Rica all year. Sailfish peak from December to April on the Central Pacific, marlin and tuna from May to August, and dorado and roosterfish in September and October. See our Costa Rica fishing calendar for every month.

Should I fish inshore or offshore?

Choose offshore if you want marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna or dorado. Choose inshore for roosterfish, snapper and jacks, with shorter runs that suit families and half days.

Which Costa Rica fishing destination should I choose?

Usually the one closest to where you’re staying. Los Sueños, Jacó and Quepos serve the Central Pacific; Flamingo, Tamarindo and Papagayo serve Guanacaste; Golfito, Puerto Jiménez and Drake Bay cover the South Pacific; and Tortuguero is the place for Caribbean tarpon.

Do I need fishing experience?

No. First-time anglers and families have great days on the water. Tell us your group’s experience and we’ll recommend the right trip.

What is included on a fishing charter?

It varies by boat. Most trips include the captain and crew, fishing tackle, bait and drinks; full days often include lunch. We confirm the exact inclusions before you book.

Do you offer multi-day fishing packages?

Yes. Our fishing packages combine several fishing days with lodging and transfers.
